Our approach

A reading you can follow.

Every match starts with the evidence. Every conclusion comes with its reasons — and its limits.

Start with how the teams play

We look at attacking and defensive strength, the competition, and the difference between home and away form. Recent results carry more weight than older ones.

Keep the context clear

Absences, head-to-head meetings and team news help describe the fixture. We distinguish the evidence behind the main reading from the extra context around it.

Include the reasons for caution

A match preview should explain what challenges its own conclusion. Where form or other evidence points in a different direction, that belongs in the analysis.

Leave room for uncertainty

When the evidence does not separate two teams, that is the finding. A likely outcome is not a promise, and an exact score is especially uncertain.

Come back to the result

The next daily edition reviews the previous day's readings against the final scores. Misses are part of the record, not something to leave out.
